For Immediate Release: October 15, 2026
Community support will help expand animal habitats, advance wildlife conservation, and create new ways for guests to connect with nature.
Columbia, SC, October 15, 2026 — Riverbanks Zoo and Garden has launched a capital campaign to complete Phase Two of Bridge to the Wild, a major expansion that will create new immersive guest experiences and animal habitats, grow Riverbanks’ economic and quality of life impacts in the Midlands, and strengthen its commitment to animal care and wildlife conservation.
Riverbanks has secured nearly $140 million in public and private funding and is seeking an additional $5 million in philanthropic support to complete Phase Two.
Building on the success of the Saluda Skyride, which opened in 2025, Phase Two will add new immersive animal habitats, accessible pathways, riverfront dining and extraordinary opportunities for guests to connect with wildlife and discover the importance of conservation.
Phase Two highlights include:
- An all-new expanded lion habitat featuring more room to roam, natural elements, and enrichment opportunities that support animal welfare.
- New habitats for red pandas, Sumatran tigers, and endangered and rescued primates impacted by the illegal wildlife trade.
- A riverside restaurant offering sweeping views of the Lower Saluda River.
- A fully accessible pathway and immersive experiences designed to spark curiosity, strengthen connections with nature, and inspire conservation action.
“Bridge to the Wild represents a remarkable investment in the future of Riverbanks, our community, and the wildlife we work to protect,” said Tommy Stringfellow, president and CEO of Riverbanks Zoo and Garden. “This campaign gives our supporters an opportunity to help create exceptional spaces for animals, meaningful experiences for guests, and a stronger conservation resource for generations to come.”
Community members, businesses, and philanthropic partners are invited to help bring Bridge to the Wild to life. To learn more or make a contribution, visit riverbanks.org/bridgetothewild.
